Barfleur is a small seaport with granite houses from the 17th and 18th century on a narrow spit of land overlooking the Bay of the Seine. It is nowadays a charming fisherman harbour and seaside resort.

Barfleur has been classified among today’s most beautiful villages of France (http://www.villagesdefrance.free.fr/page_barfleur.htm).

After the conquest of England, Barfleur became one of the main links between Normandy and England, and was the favoured port of the nobility when they travelled back and forth between their domains on both sides of the Channel. The town grew to 9,000 inhabitants, more than 10 times what it is today.
